We are looking for two passionate and dedicated individuals to take on the role of apprentices at Sidmouth CE Primary School.
To work under the directed instruction of senior Teaching Assistants/ Teaching and Senior staff within the Foundation Stage Unit. To provide general support to the FSU team both in shared areas and bases, and to support access to learning for pupils aged between 2 and 5. Work to provide experience and evidence for ‘Children and Young Peoples Workforce’ Level 2 certificate.
To work under direct supervision/ instruction to support access to learning by:
Attending to the welfare and personal care of Foundation Stage pupils including those with special educational needs
Working with small groups or on a one-to-one basis with children
Undertaking general clerical/ organisational support for FSU team
In line with module development and course requirements duties will initially be supported/ led and supervised by member of staff from the FSU. As competency and independence develops this supervision and guidance will be lessened as required by level 2 certification and course requirements.
Support the teacher by:
Preparing the classroom as directed for lessons and clearing afterwards
Assisting with the display of pupils work
Being aware of pupil problems/ progress/ achievements and reporting these to the teacher as agreed
Undertaking basic pupil record keeping as requested
Being aware of/ working within planned learning activities
Occasionally plan (in line with level 2 course) for individual pupils/ small groups activities encompassing the EYFS
Follow and promote the FSU behaviour policies and guidelines
Communicate from/ to parents/ FSU as specifically directed by teaching staff
Supporting pupils by:
Supervising and providing support for pupils, including those with special educational needs, ensuring their safety and access to learn
Attending to the pupils personal needs, including social, health, physical, hygiene and welfare matters
Establishing good relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs
Promoting the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils
Encouraging pupils to interact with others and to engage in activities led by the teacher
Encouraging pupils to act independently as appropriate.
Support the curriculum by:
Supporting pupils to understand instructions
Supporting pupils in respect of local and national learning strategies relating to the Early Years Foundation Stage e.g. letters and sounds
Supporting pupils using ICT as directed
Preparing and maintaining equipment/ resources as directed by the teacher and assisting pupils in their use
Support the school by:
Being aware of and complying with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, and reporting all concerns to an appropriate person
Being aware of and support difference and ensuring all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop
Contributing to the overall ethos/ work/ aims of the school
Participating in training and other learning activities in accordance with level 2 certification
Accompanying teaching staff and pupils on visits and out of school activities as required.
£3.50 per hour (National Minimum Wage for an Apprentice0
Minimum of 30 hours a week
Level 3 qualification and/or a long term career.
Sidmouth Primary School opened in September 2011 following the merger of three existing infant and junior schools. The school now operates on three sites:
Nursery Unit on the Vicarage Road Site;
Infants based on the Manstone Avenue and Vicarage Road sites;
Key Stage 2 (Years 3-6) work from the Woolbrook Road site.
There are about 540 pupils working across the three sites, cared for by an excellent staff team.

Good numeracy and literacy skills
Ability to use technology to a basic level – e,g, computer, DVD, photocopier etc
To self organise and work towards specific goals e.g. the completion of course modules and requirements for apprenticeship scheme
Requirement to participate in specific and accredited training
Willingness to participate in other development and training opportunities
Ability to relate well to children and adults
Ability to work constructively as part of a team, to understand classroom roles and responsibilities and to understand own position within these
Candidate is required to have GCSE Grades in Maths and English. The same in ICT is also preferable.
