  • We are looking for a well presented and motivated apprentice for Kings School & Nursery in Plymouth.

    To assist the Early Years class teacher in providing a secure and stimulating environment in which the children in your care will develop socially, physically and academically to work as part of a team.

    To work under the supervision of the class teacher or room leader to provide a variety of play and learning situations to enable each child to develop their skills.

    General classroom administration to include; checking book bags, and liaison books and cash handling forms. Prepare materials for activities and clear them away afterwards. Help with mounting/displays as required around the school. Make observations and record them on the computer and make assessments to plan their next steps that meet their development and learning needs.

    Assistance in the classroom, to include; working with small groups or maintaining class work to allow the teacher to concentrate on helping a group. File completed work, stick work in books and sort homework into folders.

    Assist with pupil behaviour within the class and elsewhere in the building or outside, particularly when on duty. To liaise with staff regarding any children persistently failing to behave appropriately.

    To work as part of a team, within the school and with agencies associated with the school, as required.

    To be sensitive to the needs of children. Support pupils’ health, safety, emotional and social development. To observe pupils to ensure no dangerous situations arise. To respond to any immediate accidents or emergencies. To provide comfort and assistance to children and to establish a rapport with individuals and groups.

    Liaise effectively with parents, dealing with feedback to and from parents in a wise, discreet way and participating in feedback as appropriate within school situations always with reference to the class teacher.

    To supervise children as part of pre-school, lunchtime and after care teams as designated.

    To be willing to undertake appropriate training to keep abreast of current child care developments as well as Safeguarding and Child Protection training.

    To be aware of the health and safety of all children in your care, both indoors and outdoors.

    To be prepared to work with different age children from 3 – 11 years old and also within the 0-3 nursery setting.

    Any other duties for this position necessary to assist in the smooth running of King’s School.

    The job holder’s responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom s/he is responsible, or with whom s/he comes in to contact will be to adhere to and ensure compliance with the relevant Cognita Education Safeguarding Policy (including Child Protection Procedures) at all times. If in the course of carrying out the duties of the role, the job holder identifies any instance that the child is suffering or likely to suffer significant harm either at school or at home s/he must report any concerns to the School’s Child Protection Officer/ Designated Safeguarding Lead or to the Head or indeed to the Regional CEO so that a referral can be made accordingly to the relevant third party services.

    Weekly/Hourly Rate

    £3.50 per hour (National Minimum Wage for an Apprentice)

    Working Hours

    8- 5 or 8.30-5.30 with one hour for lunch

    To start at Level 2 with a view to moving towards Level 3.

    On site staff room with microwave. Lunch cooked on site by Thomas Franks caterers. Lunch can be bought daily at a reasonable price
