    This one day introductory course is aimed at small businesses who want to understand and learn how to manage their accounts efficiently and to comply with legislation. The workshop embeds the learning with interactive activities based on real life scenarios and encourages you to find out which systems and tools will work best for your organisation.

    Course Structure

    The course will cover all of the following:

    • Why do you need to keep accurate financial records?
    • The Chart of Accounts – what is it and how to apply it to your business
    • Recording purchases and sales
    • Choosing a book-keeping system
    • Banking & reconciling accounts
    • Payroll, including self-employment, sun-contractors, pensions
    • Reports: Debtors, Creditors, Cash flow
    • The balance sheet – how healthy is your business?
    • Month and Year End routines

    On completion of the course you should be able to:

    • Know how to check and process documents involved in financial record keeping
    • Know how to carry out routine book-keeping processes
    • Have a clear understanding of basic book-keeping principles
    • Prepare statements as a preliminary to financial control
