If you are looking for a way to train in the workplace, an Apprenticeship could be for you!
An apprenticeship is a real job where you can gain hands-on experience, earn a salary and train while you work.
Apprenticeships are designed with the help of employers in the industry, so they offer a structured programme that takes you through the skills you need to progress in your chosen career.
We offer apprenticeships in a range of sectors including; Beauty Therapy & Nail Services, Business Administration, Customer Service, Team Leading, Childcare and Support Teaching & Learning.
When you’re an apprentice you’ll be treated like all the other employees within the company with a contract of employment and holiday leave. You will work between 30-40 hours per week and will spend at least 20% of your time spent in off the job training.
The National Minimum Apprenticeship Wage for an apprentice aged 16 to 18 and those aged 19 or over that are in their first year of their apprenticeship is £4.15 per hour (April 2020).
There are different levels for apprenticeships; we offer Level 2 (intermediate) and Level 3 (advanced). The duration of apprenticeships vary, depending on which apprenticeship you choose, what level it’s at, and your previous experience, however the minimum duration is 12 months. Apprenticeships are available to anyone over the age of 16 who are living in England – there is no upper age limit.
As the training provider, GHQ Training will work closely with your employer to play a key role to play in your apprenticeship. We will be responsible for providing your off-the-job training, assessing your progress towards achieving your qualifications and supporting you generally throughout your training.
Depending on which apprenticeship you’re doing and where you are in Devon & Cornwall will determine how you receive your training. You will either; attend our Plymouth Training Centre one day per week, attend monthly workshops/ sessions or your assessor will visit you in your workplace.
For apprentices who are on an Apprenticeship Standard, at the end of the training they will take an ‘end-point assessment’. This is an opportunity to demonstrate that they are competent in their occupation and can achieve a Pass or Distinction grade.
If the apprentice doesn’t already hold a Grade 4/C or above in GCSE English & Maths (or equivalent) they will work towards their Functional Skills whilst doing their apprenticeship.
