Overview

The VTCT Level 1 NVQ Certificate in Beauty Therapy is a vocational qualification that will confirm your competence as an assistant junior beauty therapist. This qualification is designed for learners aged 16 years or over and will support you to gain employment as an assistant junior beauty therapist, as the units contained in this qualification cover all the skills and knowledge required for this role. Entry onto this qualification can be via previous attainment of an Entry level qualification in beauty therapy and/or a successful skills test or interview.

This qualification includes all the required elements to work effectively as an assistant junior beauty therapist including: preparing and maintaining the salon treatment work areas, effective working with clients and colleagues, taking responsibility for actions to reduce risks to health and safety.

You will also develop your understanding and skills by selecting a number of optional specialist units which include: assisting with facial skincare services, assisting with day make-up services, assisting with nail services, assisting with salon reception duties. The structure of this qualification provides you with the opportunity to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills required for a career as an assistant junior beauty therapist.

Throughout this qualification you will develop your knowledge and understanding of the anatomy of the skin, health and safety, client care and beauty product knowledge. You will develop a range of technical assisting skills in beauty therapy services. You will also develop interpersonal skills that will assist you to communicate effectively with clients, when assisting with salon reception duties.

What could this qualification lead to?

This qualification will prepare you for employment as an assistant junior beauty therapist in a commercial beauty salon.

Whilst the primary outcome of this qualification is to enable you to gain employment as an assistant junior beauty therapist in the beauty therapy sector, you can also progress to the next level of learning via a range of vocational qualifications at level 2, these include:

- VTCT Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy (General)
- VTCT Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy (Make-up)
- VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Specialist Techniques
- VTCT Level 2 Diploma in beauty Therapy Studies

This is one of three VTCT qualifications in beauty therapy at level 1 and is the only VTCT level 1 qualification in beauty therapy that will confirm your competence for the job role of assistant junior beauty therapist. This qualification requires you to work in a commercial salon whereby assessments must be carried out on real paying clients.
