The Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) is aimed at those who want to enter the Learning and Development sector by becoming a qualified assessor of NVQs and other work based learning programmes. The QCF units can be mixed and matched to provide a flexible, individual approach to delivery.
Unit 1 – Understanding the principles and practices of assessment
Unit 2 – Assess occupational competence in the workplace
Unit 3 – Assess vocational skills, knowledge & understanding
Unit 1 is available as a stand-alone theory and knowledge based QCF unit. However, our holistic approach to training and assessment means that all 3 units can be covered simultaneously to provide a fully comprehensive, practical learning experience that will fully prepare you for the real world of assessing vocational competence.
The full CAVA qualification is a 6-9 month programme for practitioners who need to be qualified to use ALL of the above methods. Delivery involves group training sessions, observations by assessor, on-line tests, visits in the workplace, personal research and distance learning, all with the on-going support of a personal mentor/tutor.
We will carry out a comprehensive initial assessment of your current competence and future requirements before you begin on any programme.
You must have GCSE grades A-C or equivalent in English, or you will be required to take Functional Skills Level 2 in English prior to enrolment on this course.
A minimum of 2 years commercial experience in the area you want to assess is essential.
Access to at least 2 learners to assess in your specialist area.
Advanced Learner Loans (Student Finance) are available to fund this course which allows you to borrow the money to cover the costs of the course and pay it back a bit at a time when you are earning more than £25,725 a year. Subject to eligibility.
Privately funded at a cost of £811 plus VAT (payment plans are available should you proceed with the privately funded payment option – 50% deposit required).
There are 4 theory sessions to attend at GHQ Training Centre in Plymouth. These sessions can be attended remotely via video streaming if more convenient.
We are looking at running the next course in January 2021.
“When I look back over this course, I can see how much confidence I have gained. I have really enjoyed every aspect of the course and have learnt a great amount. I was really nervous when I started my practical assessments but the support I received has been a real benefit. I really enjoyed the practical side and getting to work with the learners. I will now look forward to starting a career as a childcare assessor.”
