Overview
The Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) is aimed at those who want to enter the Learning and Development sector by becoming a qualified assessor of NVQs and other work based learning programmes. The QCF units can be mixed and matched to provide a flexible, individual approach to delivery.
- Unit 1 – Understanding the principles and practices of assessment
- Unit 2 – Assess occupational competence in the workplace
- Unit 3 – Assess vocational skills, knowledge & understanding
Unit 1 is available as a stand-alone theory and knowledge based QCF unit. However, our holistic approach to training and assessment means that all 3 units can be covered simultaneously to provide a fully comprehensive, practical learning experience that will fully prepare you for the real world of assessing vocational competence.
The full CAVA qualification is a 6-9 month programme for practitioners who need to be qualified to use ALL of the above methods. Delivery involves group training sessions, observations by assessor, on-line tests, visits in the workplace, personal research and distance learning, all with the on-going support of a personal mentor/tutor.

“When I look back over this course, I can see how much confidence I have gained. I have really enjoyed every aspect of the course and have learnt a great amount. I was really nervous when I started my practical assessments but the support I received has been a real benefit. I really enjoyed the practical side and getting to work with the learners. I will now look forward to starting a career as a childcare assessor.”
