  • Course Outline

    This qualification will support learners to develop the knowledge and skills required to work in a range of clinical healthcare support settings and in adult care environments. It covers a wide range of areas including dementia awareness, mental health and well-being, supporting individuals with their physical and emotional care, daily living needs and healthcare procedures

    Course structure

    The qualification is formed of mandatory and optional units. The mandatory units cover core competencies while the optional units allow learners to choose from a variety of areas to tailor the qualification to their needs and interests, and to reflect the context of their work.

    Mandatory units:

    • Communication in care settings
    • Handle information in care settings
    • Personal development in care settings
    • Implement person-centred approaches in care settings
    • Equality and inclusion in care settings
    • Health, safety and well-being in care settings
    • Responsibilities of a care worker
    • Duty of care
    • Safeguarding and protection in care setting

    Suitable Applicants

    Learners who wish to work or are working in a variety of different settings within the NHS and private care facilities.

    Requirements

    Learners will need to be working, volunteering or on practical placement to be able to show competence in both knowledge and skills.

    12 months

    Assessments

    Units are internally assessed by your Tutor/Assessor using a portfolio of evidence.

    Career/ progression opportunities

    Upon completion, learners can enter either the adult care or health workforces. The content is applicable to a variety of roles, including: adult care worker, healthcare assistant/support worker or personal assistant. Learners can progress onto the Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care.

    Funding

    • Applicants may be eligible to have this course funded via the Skills Support for the Workforce programme which is co-financed by the European Social Fund and Education and Skills Funding Agency.
    • Applicants can fund this course privately at a cost of £2,225 (+vat) – payment plans available.
