  • Overview

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training is a knowledge based introduction to teaching and / or training which has no teaching/ training practice requirement. Therefore it may be undertaken by candidates who are not in the teaching role. We do however recommend that you have experience in delivering informal teaching and learning to support your understanding of the course content and how it relates to practice.

The qualification is aimed at those considering education and training as a profession and will give you an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a teacher trainer in relation to legislation, equality, diversity, inclusivity and meeting the needs of learners. You will be able to devise lesson plans and deliver sessions using appropriate resources and teaching methods. You will also be able to identify the characteristics of effective assessment methods and how to give feedback.

    Units

    • Unit 1 : Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training (3 credits)
    • Unit 2 : Understanding and using inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training (6 credits)
    • Unit 5: Understanding assessment in education and training (3 credits)

Our holistic approach to training and assessment means that all three units can be covered simultaneously to provide a fully comprehensive, practical learning experience that will introduce you to the world of formal education and training.

    Requirements

All that we require for entry onto the qualification is that you are considering a subject for delivery and be aiming to achieve/ or have achieved a qualification and /or have experience in their subject/ skill at an appropriate level.

In addition you should have the ability to manage the requirements of the level qualification you are taking, read and interpret written tasks, and write answers in a legible and understandable form.

    Things to consider

The level 3 Award in Education and Training is not a teaching qualification – it is an introduction to teaching that will give an insight into the roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training, how to plan and deliver inclusive teaching/ training sessions and how to assess and give constructive and developmental feedback.

Delivery involves group training sessions, observations carried out of the micro teach, personal research and distance learning; all with the on-going support of a personal mentor/assessor. You will need to commit to meeting deadlines set by your tutor.
