    This qualification develops the knowledge and skills needed when working in a lead adult care worker role in care settings. It covers a wide range of areas including supporting individuals with their physical and emotional care, daily living needs and health and social care procedures.

    Course structure

    The qualification is formed of mandatory and optional units. The mandatory units cover core competencies while the optional units allow learners to choose from a variety of areas to tailor the qualification to their needs and interests, and to reflect the context of their work.

    Mandatory units:

    • Promote communication in care settings
    • Promote effective handling of information in care settings
    • Promote personal development in care settings
    • Promote person-centred approaches in care settings
    • Promote equality and inclusion in care settings
    • Promote health, safety and well-being in care settings
    • Responsibilities of a care worker
    • Duty of care in care settings
    • Safeguarding and protection in care settings

    Suitable Applicants

    All those who wish to work or are working in a lead adult care worker role with adults in health and social care settings.

    Requirements

    Learners will need to be working, volunteering or on practical placement to be able to show competence in both knowledge and skills.

    Course duration

    12-24 months (depending on the learner).

    Assessments

    The qualification will be assessed using a range of methods. This could include direct observation in the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments or a task.

    Career/ progression opportunities

    Learners can progress into employment in residential or nursing homes, domiciliary care, day centres or some clinical healthcare settings within job roles such as Senior Care Support Worker or Lead Personal Assistant. Learners can progress onto a higher level care or management qualification.

    Funding

    • This course can be fully funded via the Advanced Learner Loan (Student Finance) for those 19+ – subject to eligibility. This allows you to borrow the money to cover the costs of the course and pay it back a bit at a time when you are earning more than £25,725 a year.
    • Applicants can fund this course privately at a cost of £2,882 (+ vat) payment plans available.
