Course Structure
This qualification provides learners with the skills and knowledge needed to manage practice and lead others in health and social care and children and young people’s services. It has six pathways – three for adults and two for children and young people, and covers a wide range of topics including:
- Safeguarding and protection
- Managing care services
- Supporting development and partnership working
- Contributing to broader activities such as change programmes and recruitment
- Complying with quality systems and continuously improving quality
- Developing and carrying out policy
- Promoting and developing best practice
- Care management
The Management pathway is most suitable for Assistant Managers and Deputy Managers who are looking to progress their career. It is also appropriate for Managers who have not yet achieved a vocational qualification at this level.
The Advanced Practice pathway is geared towards senior practitioners who would like to develop their career but wish to remain active practitioners within the management framework.
Requirements
Learners should be at least 19 years old. It is also recommended that they will hold a Level 3 qualification or above in a related area. Learners will need to be working in the role of Deputy or Manager in an appropriate setting, or have the opportunity to carry out responsibilities associated with these roles.

Career/ progression opportunities
On completion learners can progress to a wide range of job roles depending on the pathway taken. The following list is not all-inclusive, but gives a taster of the opportunities available in either adult or children and young people’s settings: Manager, Deputy Manager, Assistant Manager, Care Broker, Case Manager, Senior Support Worker, Day Care Manager or Residential Care Manager. Learners can also progress onto a degree in a related discipline.
Funding
- This course can be fully funded via the Advanced Learner Loan (Student Finance) for those 19+, subject to eligibility.
- Applicants can fund this course privately at a cost of £3,458.40 (inc VAT) – payment plans available.
