A very busy yet rewarding few days at our Junior Networking Events last week!
Starting at the Saltash Guildhall on Tuesday, and then Penventon Park Hotel on Wednesday, we gave 2 secondary schools the chance to meet face to face with businesses.
These innovative events were part of a pilot scheme for the Aspire Project. The aim of Junior Networking is to inspire local young people and encourage them to start thinking about their next steps after school, within a real business environment outside of their school comfort zone. Guest speakers from local businesses were invited to provide a valuable insight about opportunities for young people in the area. The students also had the chance to engage with the businesses on a more one to one basis with group question and answer sessions.
We’re very thankful for all the businesses and venues that generously gave their time and services to these events. They provided the students with a professional environment and allowed them to gain valuable experiences which will no doubt positively influence them all moving forward. It’s great to see so many businesses show commitment to their communities by hosting and engaging in such worthwhile events.
These events wouldn’t have been possible without our collaboration with David Brock and Cornish Partnerships, their tireless work to find us business leaders who are passionate about sharing their knowledge with students made these events special.
Here's what some of the students had to say about the events...
“At first I thought it was going to be boring and just a way to get out of school, but they managed to time the breaks well so it kept me interested throughout the whole event. I found the guest speakers very interesting and engaging, they were easy to talk to and had lots of information. Nice to be part of it!”
“The session we participated in with GHQ was very interesting and got us talking about our aspirations. They challenged our choices and helped us understand what we really want to do. The main event was also very useful in helping me to relax and create connections with business owners.”
“It was a very good experience as it gave me an idea of what having an interview with a business would be like.”
“It has helped me decide what I want to do when I leave school and I now feel more confident in talking to people I don’t know and getting more involved.”
